Kazakhstan Sends Over 70 Athletes to 2025 Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo

Kazakhstan will field a team of 79 athletes at the 25th Summer Deaflympic Games, scheduled to take place in Tokyo from November 15 to 26, 2025.

Ahead of the Games, a briefing on the development of Deaflympic sports in Kazakhstan was held by the Central Communications Service, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Marat Kaskyrbayev, Head of the Department for Persons with Disabilities in Sports, noted that the country has about 37,000 deaf and hard‑of‑hearing people, of whom roughly 15,000 are active in sports.

“Kazakhstan offers 13 Olympic disciplines for athletes with hearing impairments,” he said. “At this Deaflympics our team will compete in eight of the most competitive disciplines, and we hope to achieve strong results.”

The Deaflympics-recognised as the world’s largest sporting event for athletes with hearing challenges-are expected to bring in about 3,000 athletes from 80 countries, competing across 21 sports.

According to the Kazakh National Deaflympic Committee, the delegation is finalising its preparations and entering the last phase of training camps ahead of departure.

This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the Deaflympics, originally launched in Paris in 1924. Kazakhstan first participated in the Summer Deaflympics in 1997 and has since taken part in six summer and three winter editions, winning a total of 42 medals-8 gold, 8 silver, and 26 bronze.

Earlier this month, Kazakh cyclist Diego Ulissi, riding with XDS Astana, finished third at the 2025 Veneto Classic.
