Kazakhstan to Welcome World’s Young Chess Talents at FIDE Cadet Championships

Kazakhstan’s Almaty city is set to welcome the FIDE World Cadet Chess Championships 2025 from September 18 to October 1.

The event will feature Open and Girls categories in the U8, U10, and U12 age groups, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

The tournament will bring together over 800 young players from 84 countries. Among the largest delegations are India (28 participants), China (25), and the US (24). As the host country, Kazakhstan will field 200 competitors, marking a record presence.

Matches will take place at the Baluan Sholaq Arena. In the previous edition held in 2024, Kazakhstan topped the overall standings with two gold medals and one silver.

The opening ceremony will be held on September 19 at 1:00 p.m. (GMT+5), with the closing ceremony scheduled for September 30 at 5:00 p.m. The championship is organized by the Kazakhstan Chess Federation (KazChess) in partnership with local authorities.

The spotlight on Kazakhstan’s growing chess scene comes after an 11-year-old Kazakh prodigy won first place at the Fujairah Chess Festival earlier this year.
