Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan Sign On to Tackle Organized Crime Together

Kazakhstan’s lower parliament, the Majilis, has ratified a bilateral agreement with Turkmenistan designed to intensify joint efforts against transnational crime.

Signed in Ashgabat on October 10, the agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between both nations in combatting organized crime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, illegal migration, and other cross-border offenses, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

It lays out mechanisms, responsibilities, and procedures for law enforcement and judicial bodies to collaborate more effectively.

The Ministries of Internal Affairs from both countries played key roles in drafting the accord and will oversee its implementation.

Kazakhstan already maintains similar agreements with 20 other countries - including China, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan - as part of its broader regional security strategy.

This ratification follows the Majilis’ recent approval of a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) agreement focused on preventing the illegal transport of radioactive materials.
