Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) is set to launch direct flights between Shymkent and Baku starting June 16, 2026, further strengthening transport links between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
The new route will operate twice weekly, with flights scheduled every Tuesday and Saturday, offering travelers and businesses more convenient access between the two regional hubs, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.
Ahead of the launch, KMG-Aero - a subsidiary of KazMunayGas - signed an agreement with AZAL to provide aircraft refueling services at Shymkent International Airport using a modern “wing-to-wing” fueling system.
According to the company, all fuel operations will meet international standards for safety, quality, and operational reliability. KMG-Aero said the partnership with foreign carriers enhances its role as one of Kazakhstan’s leading aviation fuel providers.
The new air connection is expected to boost the region’s transport and logistics potential, increase the appeal of regional airports, and expand the presence of international airlines in Kazakhstan’s growing aviation market.
The announcement comes as Kazakhstan continues to expand its international flight network. SunExpress will also begin direct Izmir-Almaty flights starting July 31, 2026.
