President Tokayev Launches AI Council to Drive Kazakhstan’s Tech-Fueled Future

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has led the inaugural session of the Council for Artificial Intelligence Development, marking a major step in Kazakhstan’s push to integrate advanced technologies into its education and economic systems.

The high-level meeting, themed “Artificial Intelligence in Education: Opportunities and Challenges,” focused on enhancing human capital and embedding AI technologies into the national education system, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

Held in Astana, the session brought together key figures from the Kazakh government - including the prime minister and heads of relevant ministries - as well as international experts and leading academics from top universities and global tech firms.

Before the meeting, President Tokayev toured an exhibition of innovative digital solutions and technologies. He expressed his gratitude to the Council members and participants who traveled to the capital to contribute to shaping the country’s digital future.

“Education and science are strategic sectors for our country,” President Tokayev said in his opening remarks. “That is why we are beginning our work by exchanging views and generating ideas in this crucial direction.”

Formed by presidential decree, the Council for Artificial Intelligence Development acts as an advisory body responsible for guiding national AI strategy. Its objectives include accelerating AI adoption in key economic sectors and public administration, as well as drafting recommendations for sector-specific programs and strategic documents.

The meeting follows a recent appointment of Zhaslan Madiyev as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development. During a meeting, President Tokayev tasked Madiyev with strengthening Kazakhstan’s digital infrastructure, promoting AI implementation in critical sectors, and improving the quality and efficiency of digital government services.

As Kazakhstan looks to position itself as a regional leader in digital innovation, the council meeting signals a clear commitment from the country's leadership to embrace AI as a pillar of long-term national development.
