Russia Seeks to Shut Down KazTAG Website

Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has demanded the blocking of the website of Kazakhstan’s KazTAG over materials related to a criminal case involving the agency’s management.

A Russian court ruled that the fact of holding a press conference and other public appearances featuring KazTAG executives who are under investigation constituted a violation, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Earlier, KazTAG’s Director General Aset Matayev and Editor-in-Chief Amir Kasenov were named as suspects following a complaint filed by Freedom Finance. The complaint was linked to KazTAG publications alleging fraudulent schemes involving the company.

KazTAG, formally known as the Kazakh Telegraph Agency, is an international news agency based in Kazakhstan. The situation has drawn attention to growing tensions around media freedom and cross-border information regulation in the region.
