Ministers of Water Resources from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan convened in Uzbekistan’s Gulistan city for a working meeting focused on the sustainable management of water resources in the Syrdarya River basin.
The meeting was attended by Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma, Uzbek Minister of Water Resources Shavkat Khamraev, and Kazakh Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, The Caspian Post reports per Kyrgyz media.
“Effective water resource management amid climate change is becoming critically important for the entire region,” the Tajik minister stated.
During the discussions, the ministers reviewed the implementation of the tripartite protocol governing the operational regime of the “Tajik Sea” reservoir for the summer of 2025 and explored measures to enhance water use efficiency.
The participants underscored the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and sharing expertise to safeguard water security.
Previously, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan reached an agreement on water allocation in the Syrdarya River basin during a trilateral meeting of energy and water ministers held in Tashkent. The signed protocol outlines coordinated operational procedures for energy facilities and water distribution for the upcoming growing season.
