The European Union has imposed restrictions on the import of certain technological equipment into Kyrgyzstan as part of its broader sanctions regime against Russia.
The move makes Kyrgyzstan the first country to face the EU’s anti-circumvention trade enforcement mechanism, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
The decision comes under the EU’s 20th sanctions package against Russia, which includes a ban on supplying advanced industrial and communication technologies to Kyrgyzstan. The restricted goods include CNC metal-cutting machines, as well as radio communication equipment such as modems, routers, and radio stations.
The restrictions were introduced due to concerns that such equipment could be re-exported to Russia, potentially bypassing existing sanctions.
