Kyrgyz Deputy Foreign Minister Meder Abakirov has met with US Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Lesslie Viguerie to discuss the development of bilateral relations.
The officials exchanged views on key areas of Kyrgyz-US cooperation and prospects for deepening ties, The Caspian Post reports via the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry.
They also discussed preparations for the upcoming B5+1 Forum, scheduled in Bishkek on February 4-5, 2026, covering organizational and substantive aspects and highlighting its role in strengthening regional dialogue and cooperation between Central Asia and the United States.
Additionally, the meeting addressed new US requirements for B-1/B-2 visas for Kyrgyz citizens. The Kyrgyz side expressed concern that these rules complicate business contacts and hinder trade and economic cooperation. Viguerie clarified that the changes are part of the US overall immigration policy and are not targeted at any specific country.
Both sides agreed to continue close cooperation to find mutually acceptable solutions regarding visa regulations.
