Kyrgyz Gold Medalist Receives Prestigious Cash Award

The Office of the President’s Representative in Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul hosted a ceremonial reception to celebrate 14-year-old Edisa Berdibaeva, who recently won a gold medal at the World School Chess Championship in the US.

The reception brought together Edisa, her coaches, and mentors in a warm and proud atmosphere recognizing her remarkable achievement, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Bakytbek Zhetigenov, Presidential Representative in Issyk-Kul, praised the young chess prodigy, saying her victory is a source of pride not just for the region but for the entire country. “Edisa, with her perseverance, talent, and determination, inspires thousands of children and parents. She has proven that with dedication and effort, any heights can be reached,” he stated.

In recognition of her success, Edisa received a certificate awarding 200,000 soms ($2,289), while her personal coach, Damir Talapker, received a certificate for 100,000 soms ($1,144). Coaches who have made notable contributions to the development of chess in the region were also honored with letters of appreciation.
