Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Meets with Armenian President

Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, met with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan during his official visit to Armenia.

The parties discussed the current state of political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between the countries and the further development of partnership, The Caspian Post reports citing Kabar.

Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu noted that Kyrgyzstan attaches great importance to cooperation with Armenia. "There is a constructive political dialogue between the two states, the necessary legal framework has been formed. We are interested in further active cooperation both in a bilateral format and within the framework of international platforms and integration associations," he said.

During the meeting, an exchange of views on economic relations also took place. Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu emphasized that the volume of trade between Kyrgyzstan and Armenia does not fully realize the existing potential. "We need to increase cooperation within the framework of integration associations, promote trade relations. We have many opportunities that require proper use. In addition, we need to pay attention to interregional cooperation," the speaker added.

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, noting that high-level meetings have been held between the two countries in recent years, expressed confidence that this official visit by the Speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu will give additional impetus to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Along with this, the President of Armenia added that the two countries have the potential to increase the volume of trade turnover and emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere.

"We view Central Asia and its countries as a bridge connecting the East and the West. Therefore, the Armenian side is interested in strengthening partnerships with the countries of the region, including Kyrgyzstan," Vahagn Khachaturyan said, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening cooperation between the countries. He also recalled the need to expand dialogue between the business community and build up partnerships in the field of high technology.
