Kyrgyzstan Advises Bishkek Residents to Leave During SCO Summit

Askat Alagozov, spokesperson for the President of Kyrgyzstan, has said that residents of Bishkek were encouraged to spend August 30-31 and September 1 at Issyk-Kul or other holiday destinations as the Kyrgyz capital prepares to host two major international events.

Alagozov said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games will take place simultaneously in Bishkek, with leaders from 21 countries expected to attend, The Caspian Post reports via 24.kz.

Due to the large number of high-profile delegations, authorities plan to introduce frequent traffic restrictions and temporary road closures throughout the city.

"We ask Bishkek residents, if possible, to spend these days at Issyk-Kul or other recreational areas. Otherwise, the inconvenience will mainly affect you, as roads across the city will be closed repeatedly over the three-day period," Alagozov wrote.

He also noted that the new academic year in Kyrgyzstan's schools and universities will begin on September 15, meaning there is no need for pupils and students to return to the capital by September 1.
