Kyrgyzstan and China Finalize Deal to Reconstruct Two Units at Uch-Kurgan HPP

An additional agreement for the simultaneous reconstruction of two hydroelectric units at the Uch-Kurgan hydroelectric power station was signed in China, according to the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the information of the ministry, as part of the working visit of President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov to China Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibrayev met on Wednesday with President of China National Electric Engineering Co., LTD Yang Wenhuang, The Caspian Post reports citing Kabar.

As part of the bilateral meeting, negotiations were held on deepening cooperation in the field of energy, implementing joint projects and implementing the Uch-Kurgan HPP modernization project.

In 2026, two hydroelectric units of the Uch-Kurgan HPP will be reconstructed simultaneously. This will increase the installed capacity of the station by 18 MW.

This event will be carried out for the first time as part of projects to rehabilitate the energy sector of Kyrgyzstan. The purpose of the parallel replacement of two units is to remove additional electricity from the reservoir and increase the country's production capacity. The general contractor of the project is the highly qualified Chinese company China National Electric Engineering Co., LTD.

Following the official visit, General Director of Electric Stations OJSC Alpbek Sadyrov and Deputy General Director of China National Electric Engineering Co., LTD Yan Bo signed an additional agreement on replacing two hydroelectric units of the Uch-Kurgan HPP simultaneously as part of the implementation of the Uch-Kurgan HPP Modernization Project.
