On July 15, Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, held a meeting with the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China.
The Kyrgyz minister also met with the secretary of the party committee and commissioner of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC), chairman of the board of China Xinjian Group He Zhong Yu, who is on an official visit to Kyrgyzstan, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media.
Bakyt Torobaev emphasized the high importance of the visit of the Chinese delegation for the development of bilateral relations and expressed gratitude for the continued support and openness of China, especially in the person of the leadership of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the XPCC.
In his speech, he also noted that China remains one of the key strategic partners of Kyrgyzstan.
The Kyrgyz side pays special attention to intensifying cooperation with the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
According to the minister, the state visit of President Sadyr Zhaparov to China in 2025 gave new impetus to bilateral relations.
In particular, the trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 reached $5.3 billion, an increase of 44.7%.
It is noted that exports from Kyrgyzstan increased to $2.04 billion, which is 93 times higher than the same period in 2023. Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the development of cooperation in the agricultural sector. In 2024, trade turnover in agricultural products amounted to $153.3 million, an increase of $33 million compared to the previous year.
Kyrgyzstan is interested in increasing the export of its own products to the Chinese market and plans to sign four new protocols for the export of:
dried fruits,
cattle and small cattle skins,
heat-treated meat,
feed products.
The prospects for cooperation in such areas as cotton cultivation, the introduction of modern agricultural technologies, water-saving irrigation, the development of livestock and veterinary medicine were also discussed.
"One of the important steps in the development of logistics was the launch of the Bai Dyikan warehouse in the Uluchat district of the XUAR for storing grain legumes. The Kyrgyz side also sent requests to the relevant authorities of the PRC on the issue of obtaining quotas for the export of agricultural products," the statement said.
At the end of the meeting, Bakyt Torobaev expressed confidence that, given the positive dynamics laid down at the highest level, Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation will reach a new level, bringing concrete results for the economies and citizens of the two friendly countries.
