Direct flights between Bishkek and Shanghai could soon become a reality as Kyrgyzstan steps up efforts to expand its international air network.
State-owned Airports of Kyrgyzstan announced that it is in talks with China Eastern Airlines, one of China's largest carriers, about launching a Shanghai-Bishkek-Shanghai route, The Caspian Post reports via 24kg.
The discussions are part of Kyrgyzstan's broader strategy to attract major international airlines and strengthen the country's global connectivity.
Manasbek Samidinov, chairman of Airports of Kyrgyzstan, said the proposed route is a key element of the country's long-term plan to integrate more closely into the international aviation network.
"We held negotiations with the leadership of one of China's largest airlines, China Eastern Airlines, on launching direct flights between Shanghai and Bishkek. This is exactly the kind of project we have been consistently working toward-opening Kyrgyzstan to the world and creating new opportunities for our citizens in travel, business, and international cooperation," he said.
