Kyrgyzstan Plans to Build 18 Small Hydropower Plants in 2025

Kyrgyzstan is set to build 18 small hydropower plants (HPPs) by the end of 2025, as announced by President Sadyr Japarov during the Global Mountain Dialogue for Sustainable Development: Towards the Summit Bishkek+25 international conference.

"Fourteen small HPPs have been put into operation over the past two years to supply electricity to residents of highland and remote districts. Another 18 will be built this year," Japarov said, The Caspian Post reports citing Interfax.

In addition to building energy facilities, Kyrgyzstan is committed to developing its transport infrastructure, he said.

"All-round work is ongoing to connect highland regions with cities by building railroads and motorways and developing domestic air travel. The Zhashyl Muras national program to enlarge forestland is being implemented and active measures are being taken to provide residents of remote and highland regions with broader access to digital public services and healthcare," Japarov said.

Representatives of 50 countries and 25 international organizations are attending the conference in Bishkek.
