Kyrgyzstan, Russia Sign Agreement for 100 MW Wind Farm Project

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and Rosatom Renewable Energy JSC, a subsidiary of Russia's Rosatom State Corporation, have signed an investment agreement to collaborate on the development of wind energy in Kyrgyzstan.

The agreement was officially signed by Kyrgyz Minister of Energy, Taalaibek Ibraev; General Director of Rosatom Renewable Energy, Grigory Nazarov; and General Director of NovaWind Kyrgyzstan LLC, Dmitry Andreev, The Caspian Post reports, citing the company.

Earlier in September 2024, a time capsule was placed at the construction site for the upcoming wind farm.

Under the terms of the agreement, a wind power plant with an installed capacity of 100 MW will be constructed in the village of Kok-Moinok, located in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan. The project will also include the sale of electricity generated by the wind farm. Design and survey work, as well as equipment procurement, are set to begin in 2025.

Grigory Nazarov, Director General of Rosatom Renewable Energy JSC, emphasized that the agreement marks another significant step in advancing renewable energy projects in friendly nations. He highlighted Rosatom's extensive expertise in building and operating wind farms, noting that the total capacity of wind power projects implemented by the corporation in Russia has already surpassed 1 GW. "The construction of such facilities will not only enhance the reliability and quality of the energy system but also create new job opportunities and foster local expertise in Kyrgyzstan," Nazarov added.
