Kyrgyzstan has dispatched a strong delegation of 126 athletes to compete in the Third CIS Games.
The Third CIS Games officially kicked off with a vibrant opening ceremony held at a newly inaugurated stadium in Ganja, Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.
The event began with the hoisting of the Azerbaijani national flag, followed by a colorful parade featuring athletes from the participating countries.
Approximately 2,400 athletes are competing in this year’s Games, representing Commonwealth nations along with guest countries such as Cuba, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, and Türkiye.
Deputy Secretary General of the CIS, Nurlan Seytimov, conveyed a message from CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, expressing confidence that the Games will leave a lasting legacy on the Commonwealth’s sports movement and strengthen regional cooperation.
The ceremony also showcased a theatrical performance, an eye-catching drone display, and culminated in a spectacular fireworks show.
Spanning seven cities across Azerbaijan, the third CIS Games will continue until October 8, featuring competitions in 21 sports and awarding a total of 505 sets of medals.
The first CIS Games were held in Kazan in September 2021. Kyrgyzstan is represented this year by a delegation of 126 athletes.
