Kyrgyzstan to Get $3.5 Million Japanese Grant to Upgrade Roads

Japan will provide Kyrgyzstan with a grant of 533 million yen, equivalent to approximately $3.5 million, to purchase modern road construction and maintenance equipment.

A bill to ratify the relevant international agreements has been submitted to Kyrgyzstan’s parliament for consideration, according to barakelde.org.

The funding will be used to acquire road milling machines, soil stabilizers and road rollers. The equipment will support the repair and reconstruction of roads across the country, including international transport corridors running through Kyrgyzstan.

Particular attention will be given to roads in mountainous areas, where maintenance is complicated by challenging terrain, landslides and other natural factors.

The new machinery is expected to improve the removal of damaged asphalt layers, strengthen road foundations and extend the service life of the country’s road network.

The agreements will enter into force once the required domestic procedures, including parliamentary ratification, have been completed.

According to the explanatory note accompanying the bill, implementing the project will not require additional spending from Kyrgyzstan’s national budget.
