Kyrgyzstan to Hold Second Contest to Choose New National Anthem

Kyrgyzstan will hold a repeat contest to select a new text for its national anthem, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy announced on Friday.

"The second meeting of the commission for the selection of a draft of a new version of the lyrics and music of the country's national anthem took place on April 9-10. The commission came to the conclusion that, despite the variety of submitted drafts and active participation of citizens, no composition fully meeting the conceptual and artistic requirements for an anthem as a state symbol was found. A decision to propose announcing a repeat contest was made in this light," the press service said, The Caspian Post reports citing Interfax.

Over 700 proposals were submitted to the contest, it said.

The Kyrgyz Supreme Council approved the national anthem of Kyrgyzstan by its decree in 1992.

Parliamentary Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu proposed changing the national anthem in October 2024. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov supported this initiative.
