Shirge Zhiyar Festival Showcases Kyrgyzstan’s Organic Agriculture

Dinara Kemelova, Special Representative of the President for the Implementation of Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions, has participated in the Shirge Zhiyar organic products festival, held in the village of Kopuro-Bazar, Kyrgyzstan’s Talas region.

The event brought together representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Kyrgyzstan, local authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, and organizations promoting organic farming, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.

Farms and enterprises from Talas, Jalal-Abad, and Issyk-Kul regions presented a wide range of organic products supplied to both domestic and international markets, including China, Europe, the US, and the Middle East. Visitors had the chance to sample and purchase organic goods and learn about the “organic aymak” model (a group of farms that are part of one or several villages in mountainous regions that have common sources of water and adjacent lands), successfully implemented in Kopuro-Bazar and Taldy-Bulak aymaks.

Participants also toured farms that had adopted BIO KG organic production technologies with FAO support. These farms were among the first in Kyrgyzstan to implement the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) in accordance with the standards of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).
