The North Atlantic Council is set to meet on September 23 at Estonia’s request to address an incident involving the alleged violation of Estonian airspace by three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets.
Estonian authorities stated that the Russian aircraft entered their airspace on September 19, remaining over the Baltic country for approximately 12 minutes, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
The incident has sparked concerns among NATO members and the EU. Russia, however, denies any airspace breach, maintaining that the jets stayed within international airspace.
The upcoming meeting in Brussels will be held at the ambassadorial level under Article 4 of the NATO Treaty, which mandates consultations among member states if any ally perceives a threat to its territorial integrity, political independence, or security.
