Russia Intensifies Missile and Drone Strikes on Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure

Russia has stepped up missile and drone attacks targeting Ukraine’s vital energy and gas infrastructure, causing widespread damage across the country in the last 24 hours.

The strikes severely affected gas production sites and power grids, forcing Ukrainian authorities to implement emergency power outages in nearly every region, The Caspian Post informs via Ukrainian media.

Ukraine’s leading private energy company, DTEK, reported that electricity has been restored to about 1.9 million people over the past week, though the power network remains fragile and vulnerable to further attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urgently appealed to international partners for additional air defense systems and interceptor drones, warning of a challenging winter ahead.

In Kharkiv, a Russian airstrike struck the city’s main hospital with glide bombs and drones, injuring seven individuals and prompting the evacuation of 50 patients. Russian forces also targeted a clearly marked United Nations humanitarian convoy in Kherson, destroying two trucks and provoking condemnation from the UN.

Amid escalating hostilities, Germany announced a substantial military aid package worth over $2 billion, which includes Patriot missile defense systems, radar technology, artillery, and anti-tank weapons. This package is part of a larger NATO effort to bolster Ukraine’s defenses, despite a reported 43 per cent decline in foreign military assistance in recent months.

Diplomatic developments indicate that Moscow may soon revise legislation to mobilize up to two million reservists, suggesting a potential intensification of the conflict. Meanwhile, in the US, President Donald Trump is reportedly considering supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles-an action Russia warns would escalate the war further.

The renewed focus on crippling Ukraine’s energy infrastructure appears to be part of a broader Russian strategy to weaken civilian resilience. As winter approaches, the compounded effects of power shortages, infrastructure damage, and ongoing military conflict threaten to deepen the country’s humanitarian crisis.
