The US administration has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the G20 Summit in Miami in December, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday.

“We’ve invited President Putin to the G20. We think it’s an opportunity for him to engage not just with the president but with other world leaders,” Rubio said following his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

The headquarters of the global organization in New York is hosting the General Debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), with heads of state and government and foreign ministers taking part from September 22-26 and September 28.

The Russian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
