Ukraine’s military intelligence agency has announced a successful drone strike targeting key Russian military assets in occupied Crimea, destroying two An-26 military transport aircraft and two radar stations.
The operation involved Ukrainian special forces setting fire to both An-26 planes and destroying a Russian surface surveillance radar system along with the MR-10M1 Mys M1 coastal radar station, which is vital for early detection and tracking of surface threats, The Caspian Post informs via Ukrainian media.
The An-26, a Soviet-era twin-engine turboprop, can carry up to 40 troops or 5.5 tons of cargo, making it a significant logistical resource for Russian forces.
The military intelligence agency shared footage of the strike on social media with the message:
"How well the Muscovites' An-26 transport aircraft burn - watch the video!"
This strike is part of Ukraine’s intensified campaign to weaken Russian military infrastructure in Crimea, a territory annexed by Russia in 2014. Recent weeks have seen increased drone and missile attacks on airfields, radar stations, and command centers across the peninsula.
Earlier in September, the military intelligence agency reported the destruction of three Mi-8 helicopters and a radar station, followed by strikes disabling two Be-12 Chayka amphibious aircraft.
