How Russia Regulates Medical Checks for Foreign Workers

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law establishing a unified deadline for mandatory medical examinations for foreign citizens entering the Russian Federation.

The document was published on the official portal for the publication of legal acts, The Caspian Post reports.

Under the new regulation, migrants are required to undergo a medical examination within 30 days of entry into the country. The cost of the procedure will be covered either by the foreign nationals themselves or by employers and contracting parties.

The law also stipulates that foreign citizens staying in Russia for more than 90 days, including labor migrants, must undergo screening during the medical examination for drug or psychotropic substance use without a doctor’s prescription, as well as testing for HIV infection.

Earlier the same day, the State Duma adopted in its second and third readings a bill increasing state fees for foreign nationals. The changes include raising the fee for citizenship registration from 4,200 rubles to 50,000 rubles, for a temporary residence permit from 1,920 rubles to 15,000 rubles, and for a residence permit from 6,000 rubles to 30,000 rubles.
