Hungary’s MOL Agrees to Buy Russian Stake in Serbia’s NIS

Hungarian energy group MOL has signed an agreement to acquire the Russian stake in Serbia’s energy company NIS, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Siniša Mali said.

The deal must still receive approval from antitrust authorities in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to Kommersant.

NIS has been under US sanctions since October 2025. Washington has demanded that Russian shareholders exit the company as a condition for lifting the restrictions.

Gazprom Neft currently owns 44.9% of NIS, while Gazprom holds an additional 11.3% stake. The Serbian government owns 29.9% of the company.
