Residential Building Collapses in Russia's Dagestan After Severe Flooding - VIDEO

A multi-story apartment building has collapsed in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia’s Dagestan region in the North Caucasus, as a result of flooding, the regional branch of the Russian Emergency Ministry reported on Sunday.

Preliminary reports indicate that there were no casualties, as residents had been evacuated from the building before the collapse occurred, The Caspian Post reports, citing foreign media.

City authorities also warned of a potential risk of collapse affecting four additional multi-story residential buildings located on another street.

Around 300 residents were evacuated from those buildings as a precaution, and the surrounding area has been secured.

The prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the incident. As part of the probe, officials will examine whether urban planning regulations were properly followed and assess the effectiveness of flood prevention measures carried out by the responsible authorities.

Heavy rainfall began in Makhachkala on Saturday evening and persisted into Sunday, leading to widespread flooding of streets due to both intense precipitation and rising river levels.
