Ukraine faced a coordinated assault by the Russian military, while hostile drones also targeted neighboring Poland on September 10 morning.
Multiple groups of Russian strike drones approached Ukraine from the east and south, heading toward western regions, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
Around 1:00 a.m. (GMT+3) on September 10, Shahed drones crossed from Ukraine into Polish territory, marking an attack on the NATO member.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported large-scale cruise missile activity, with missiles entering Ukrainian airspace from both the north and south, moving westward. The Polish Armed Forces confirmed the presence of hostile targets over their territory, prompting the Polish Air Force to scramble, and air defense and radar systems were placed on the highest alert.
Due to the drone threat, airspace at four Polish airports-Rzeszów, Lublin, Warsaw, and Modlin-was temporarily closed. The most affected regions were Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, and Lublin Voivodeships. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that Polish forces had engaged the hostile targets, and he received direct updates from operational commanders.
In Ukraine, explosions were reported in Kyiv, Lviv, and Lutsk during the Shahed drone attacks, though no casualties or damage had been confirmed as of 07:00 a.m. Around 6:00 a.m., Ukraine was struck by a massive cruise missile attack, with blasts reported in Zhytomyr, Lutsk, Kalush, and Vinnytsia regions. In Vinnytsia, civilian industrial facilities were hit, and residents were advised to remain in shelters.
Air defense units in Kirovohrad successfully intercepted Shahed drones, and no local damage was reported. In Zhytomyr, kamikaze drones and cruise missiles caused significant destruction, resulting in one death and multiple injuries, while civilian enterprises and private homes were damaged. The number of victims later rose to five-four in Zhytomyr and one in Berdychiv, with one confirmed fatality.
Fires broke out in multiple locations simultaneously. Emergency services are actively extinguishing the fires, while sappers, psychologists, and other necessary personnel are assisting affected communities.
