Russia has confirmed its first imported case of chikungunya fever in 2025, with the patient currently hospitalized in moderate condition.
“The first imported case of chikungunya fever has been identified in the Russian Federation this year. The Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare [Rospotrebnadzor] had previously warned about the risks of importing the fever from other countries, so the agency’s specialists were prepared for this situation. The patient is currently hospitalized in moderate condition,” the Federal Service said in a statement, The Caspian Post informs via Russian media.
The patient had arrived in Moscow from Sri Lanka. The following day, he sought medical attention and was admitted to an infectious diseases unit with a suspected case of dengue fever. Subsequent testing, however, confirmed infection with the chikungunya virus.
