Kyrgyzstan Escapes Chikungunya Outbreak

The Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary-Epidemiological Surveillance of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry has confirmed that no cases of chikungunya fever were registered in Kyrgyzstan.

Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral infection known for causing high fever, severe joint pain, and skin rashes, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

In more severe instances, joint pain can linger for months or even years, significantly diminishing quality of life.

The update comes amid growing concerns in the region following a surge in infections abroad. In China, more than 7,000 cases of chikungunya have been reported, with authorities in Guangdong Province adopting strict preventive measures similar to those enacted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
