Russian Court Convicts IT Specialist Over Crypto Donations to Ukrainian Military

A Russian IT specialist convicted of financing Ukraine’s Armed Forces through cryptocurrency transfers worked for a major Russian company and held a highly skilled position, a Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officer has said.

Dmitry Paramonov, who was sentenced by the Moscow Region Court, transferred funds to a Ukrainian blogger who used the money to support Ukraine’s military, TASS reports.

Investigators identified Paramonov, a Russian citizen, 50, during an investigation into substantial cryptocurrency transfers made to the blogger.

The FSB officer said Paramonov had a well-paid job, a large family and a comfortable, stable lifestyle. He supported far-right and nationalist ideas and strongly opposed Russia’s political course and the actions of its Armed Forces.

Paramonov reportedly transferred more than 4,500 USDT, equivalent to approximately 415,000 rubles, to support Ukraine’s military, the FSB said.

The funds were used by Ukraine’s 3rd Assault Brigade to purchase drones and personal protective equipment.
