A Russian drone attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia has left one person dead and seven others injured, as overnight strikes targeted multiple locations across the country.
Russia launched 119 drones during the night. The Ukrainian Air Force said 97 of them were intercepted, while at least 20 drones struck 11 locations nationwide, The Caspian Post reports via Euronews.
In Zaporizhzhia, one of the attacks sparked a massive fire in a three-story residential building, engulfing an area of approximately 800 square meters. Rescue teams worked through the night to contain the blaze while facing repeated threats of additional attacks.
Emergency officials said firefighters and rescuers were forced to seek shelter several times due to ongoing aerial threats before eventually bringing the fire under control in the early morning hours.
The strikes also caused significant damage to residential buildings, vehicles, and civilian infrastructure throughout the city. Zaporizhzhia Governor Ivan Fedorov noted that Russia carried out five separate attacks on Zaporizhzhia. Officials also confirmed damage to facilities at Zaporizhzhia National University.
