A Russian drone strike on the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia has killed two people and injured at least 20 others, including children, regional authorities said, as emergency services worked through the night to assist affected residents.
The attack struck residential neighborhoods, damaging a multi-story apartment building, shops, and parked vehicles. Fires broke out at several locations, including multiple cars, but were later extinguished by emergency crews, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
Authorities confirmed that the two people killed were both 18 years old. Among the injured were several children, including a 15-year-old girl and others aged 17, 12, and 11. Earlier reports indicated that one of the injured teenagers was in extremely serious condition.
Emergency responders said rescue operations were completed following the strike, and psychological support was provided to residents, including children who experienced severe stress during the attack.
Regional officials noted that Zaporizhzhia had been under prolonged air alert conditions prior to the strike, with warnings in place for nearly a full day. Damage assessments are ongoing as authorities continue to provide assistance to those affected.
