Russian Troops Push Slightly into Ukraine's Sumy

Russian troops have intensified operations near Ukraine’s northeastern border, making a small but strategic advance in the Sumy region.

A spokesperson for the Armed Forces of Ukraine said Russian units are attempting to expand their presence in border areas, particularly near settlements north of the region, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Ukrainian officials estimate the advance at around 1 to 1.5 kilometres inside parts of Sumy region from the border.

While the territorial gains remain limited, military officials say they could carry strategic significance, potentially indicating efforts to establish positions for further expansion.

“Even such small distances are unpleasant,” the spokesperson said, warning of the risk of gradual escalation.

Ukrainian officials also reported increased Russian activity in other directions, including near Kharkiv and Lyman, suggesting continued pressure across multiple front-line areas.

Kyiv further accused Russian forces of using a recent Easter ceasefire period to regroup and reposition equipment, despite ongoing reports of strikes during the truce.

The situation remains fluid, with Ukrainian forces closely monitoring border movements and preparing for possible further advances. Officials warn that even minor incursions could escalate if Russian positions are consolidated.
