Turkmen Coast Guard Saves 14 from Distressed Iranian Ship

The Turkmen coast guard successfully rescued 14 people from the Iranian cargo ship Rona, which had been in distress in the Caspian Sea, according to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

According to the ministry, on January 14, 2026, Turkmenistan’s coast guard received an SOS signal from the distressed Iranian dry cargo ship Rona, The Caspia Post reports, citing TASS.

In response, state agencies responsible for handling and preventing emergencies promptly took all necessary measures in accordance with international navigation standards to ensure the safety of those on board.

As a result of these timely actions, all 14 individuals on the ship were safely rescued. Preliminary information indicates that the rescued individuals are citizens of Iran and India.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Turkmen authorities are currently carrying out all relevant procedures as required by international regulations.
