Governor of Russia's Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov has said that a Ukrainian missile strike reportedly struck Belgorod, causing “serious damage” to local infrastructure.
Emergency services are responding to the incident, though exact targets were not specified, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.
Local reports suggest the “Luch” thermal power plant, which provides about 10 per cent of Belgorod’s heat, was hit, resulting in power outages. Nearby homes and apartment buildings also sustained damage. No casualties have been reported.
Belgorod, located just across the border from Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, has been repeatedly targeted in Ukrainian strikes, often using HIMARS and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) in retaliation for Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
