Uzbekistan will send 16 billion cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan by October 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan.
This number is 1 billion cubic meters more than last year. 15 billion cubic meters were sent to Kazakhstan from October 2023 to October 2024, The Caspian Post reports citing Akipress.The Uzbek side will also help ensure a stable water supply through the Dostyk Canal during the 2025 irrigation season.
The countries also discussed the automation of water metering on the Syr Darya River.
"We identified the first 10 points, 5 in each country, where such systems will be installed. Today, we have agreed on the development of a feasibility study for the project. In February, a meeting of the joint working group with representatives of international organizations will be held to discuss further joint actions," Minister of Water Nurzhan Nurzhigitov said.
In addition, the Ministers agreed to jointly carry out repair work on interstate canals, which will improve the water supply to farmers in Turkestan region of Kazakhstan and Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan.
