The European Judo Championships for juniors opened in Skopje, North Macedonia, with a dominant performance from the Azerbaijani team.
On the first day, nine Azerbaijani judokas competed across six weight categories, with six securing places on the podium, The Caspian Post reports, citing the Azerbaijan Judo Federation.
Azerbaijani male judokas claimed gold in all three weight categories they contested. Anar Guliyev (-50 kg), Rasul Alizada (-55 kg), and Zeyd Alasgarov (-60 kg) defeated all their opponents to become European champions.
Among the female judokas, Narmin Agamirzazada (-48 kg) won silver, while Gulshan Huseynova (-44 kg) and Leyla Alakbarova (-48 kg) earned bronze medals.
In total, the Azerbaijani team secured six medals on the first day - three gold, one silver, and two bronze - placing them first in the overall team standings based on medal quality.
