Iran's national football team has been drawn into Group G for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alongside Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand.
The draw for the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, took place on Friday at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, The Caspian Post reports.
Group G matches will take place from June 15 to 26, 2026, with Iran facing tough competition from Belgium and Egypt, both of whom are traditionally strong footballing nations.
Other group draws revealed Group A featuring Mexico, South Korea, and South Africa, alongside a placeholder team, while Group B will see Canada, Switzerland, and Qatar, joined by one of Italy, Northern Ireland, Wales, or Bosnia.

Group A: Mexico, South Korea, South Africa, plus one of Denmark, Macedonia, Czechia, or Ireland

The tournament will feature a newly expanded format with 48 teams, marking a significant change in World Cup history.
