China will finance and construct nine new border infrastructure facilities along the Tajikistan-Afghanistan frontier, as part of a project aimed at strengthening Tajikistan’s border security.
The agreement was approved by the lower chamber of Tajikistan’s parliament, the Majlisi Oli, according to the parliamentary bulletin Sadoi Mardum, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The initiative will enhance the material and technical capabilities of Tajik border troops through modern buildings equipped with surveillance systems, communications technology, and engineering infrastructure.
The facilities will cover a total construction area of about 17,000 square meters, with the project costing 424.8 million Chinese yuan. The funding will be provided as a grant from the Chinese government, said Murodali Rajabzoda, First Deputy Chairman of Tajikistan’s State Committee for National Security.
Rajabzoda also noted that the initiative builds on earlier cooperation between the two countries, under which 12 border facilities were constructed between 2017 and 2018 with Chinese support.
