Global Water Conference to Open in Tajikistan with Cultural Festival

A major international event focused on water sustainability will open in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, this month with a large-scale cultural festival celebrating water, heritage, and development.

On May 25, the Navruzgoh Culture and Recreation Park will host a Water Festival alongside the Fourth High-Level International Conference on the Decade of Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028,” The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

The festival will feature exhibitions from across Tajikistan showcasing traditional crafts such as wood carving, jewelry, embroidery, textile weaving, and gold stitching. Visitors will also see displays of national cuisine and agricultural products, including fresh and dried fruits.

A cultural program titled “Water - the Source of Humanity’s Life” will highlight the symbolic and practical importance of water resources.

The main conference will run from May 25 to 28 and is being organized by the government of Tajikistan in partnership with the United Nations and international development partners.

The event is expected to gather high-level representatives of governments, UN representatives, financial institutions, scientists, civil society groups, and youth organizations from around the world. Delegates will also visit regions of Tajikistan to explore its water and energy potential, as well as tourism and natural landscapes.
