More Tajik Students Choose Uzbekistan for Higher Education

The number of students from Tajikistan studying in Uzbekistan rose to 2,700 in the 2025/2026 academic year, marking a 2.36-fold increase compared to the previous year.

Between January and November 2025, a total of 37,200 foreign citizens arrived in Uzbekistan for educational purposes, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Tajikistan ranked third among the largest sources of international students, following India with 16,300 students and Turkmenistan with 8,900.

Despite the growing interest in Uzbek universities, many Tajik students continue choosing other countries for higher education. Russia remains the top destination, hosting 33,178 Tajik students in 2025, accounting for more than 80 per cent of all Tajik students studying abroad.

China ranked second with around 2,900 Tajik students, while Kazakhstan continues to attract young people from Tajikistan, with 970 students enrolled. Türkiye also remains a popular choice, drawing about 900 students thanks to accessible education, scholarship opportunities, and strong interest in humanities programs.

In addition, 3,252 Tajik students are studying in countries such as India, Germany, the US, and South Korea, highlighting the growing geographical diversity of educational migration from Tajikistan.
