Tajik Leader, UN Secretary-General Discuss Key International Partnerships at General Assembly

On the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has held a high-level meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss critical areas of international collaboration.

The discussions focused on advancing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UN 2.0 initiative, and the Secretary-General’s vision for a modernized UN system, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Both leaders also exchanged views on comprehensive UN reforms under the "UN-80" program.

Climate change and environmental issues took center stage, with President Rahmon stressing the urgent need for global cooperation on water resource management, glacier preservation, and climate action. Counter-terrorism and efforts to combat extremism were also highlighted as vital for collective security.

Recognizing the growing challenges posed by geopolitical tensions, ongoing conflicts, terrorism, economic instability, and food insecurity, both leaders underscored the necessity for stronger international cooperation.

They expressed concern that only 35 per cent of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are currently on track for fulfillment by 2030. President Rahmon emphasized the pivotal role that digital technologies and artificial intelligence will play in accelerating progress toward these global objectives.
