Kazakh Leader, UN Secretary-General Discuss Global Priorities Ahead of General Assembly

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss the priority issues set to be addressed at the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly.

During the high-level meeting, President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s unwavering support for the United Nations and emphasized the country’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the UN’s central role in promoting international peace, security, and sustainable development, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Highlighting a shared commitment to regional cooperation, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a memorandum establishing the UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Central Asia and Afghanistan. The initiative aims to enhance regional collaboration and accelerate progress toward achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The new Centre is expected to serve as a key platform for coordinating SDG-related initiatives and fostering policy dialogue across Central Asia and Afghanistan, aligning with Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to support multilateralism and regional stability.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, where global leaders are convening to address pressing international challenges, including climate change, conflict resolution, and economic development.
