UN Secretary-General António Guterres has sent a letter to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressing gratitude for the successful organization of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), held in Avaza.
In his message, Guterres praised Turkmenistan’s leadership and long-standing commitment to peace and multilateral dialogue, noting that these qualities provided an ideal foundation for hosting such a major international event, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.
He also highlighted President Berdimuhamedov’s role in uniting participants from around the world-including heads of state, civil society representatives, youth, and media-around a shared agenda.
Guterres noted that this event played a crucial role in aligning national actions, regional cooperation, and global policy frameworks to ensure that landlocked developing countries can achieve sustainable and inclusive growth while strengthening their resilience against future shocks.
A key outcome of the conference was the adoption of the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Programme of Action, which Guterres described as an ambitious roadmap for the next decade, closely linked to the Pact for the Future and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In conclusion, Guterres extended his appreciation to President Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan for their hospitality, and expressed his anticipation of close cooperation to fully and effectively implement the Avaza Programme of Action.
