Tajik State Pedagogical University Ranks 8th Globally in 2025

The Tajik State Pedagogical University named after Sadriddin Aini (TSPU) has entered the top 10 universities worldwide, securing 8th place in the Higher Education Ranking 2025 Edition.

This marks the first time in Tajikistan’s higher education history that a national university has achieved such a high global ranking, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The ranking was published by the independent Higher Education Ranking (HE) project of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Council (HEQAC), based on an analysis of 422 universities from 55 countries. TSPU scored 8,136 points, making it the highest-ranked university in Tajikistan and one of the global leaders.

Unlike other rankings that focus primarily on reputation or bibliometric indicators, HE evaluates universities through a comprehensive methodology, which in 2025 included 25 criteria and 138 performance indicators. The project emphasizes how universities actually operate, rather than just their perceived status.

Evaluation factors include not only research and teaching quality, but also university governance, internationalization, digital transformation, graduate employability, academic transparency, inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Each ranked university received a detailed analytical report with performance assessments, forecasts, SWOT analysis, and development recommendations. TSPU’s high result reflects systematic scientific and educational work and the active implementation of modern educational technologies.

Previously, TSPU was recognized as the Best Innovative and Progressive University of 2023 by the London School of Digital Business and is now preparing to participate in QS and Times Higher Education global rankings.

The university is also actively developing digital education, offering over 5,000 video lectures in 89 specialties across multiple languages, which have received international recognition. In 2024, all specialties were internationally accredited for five years, with participation from Chinese educational institutions.

In the HE 2025 ranking, other Tajik universities included Tajik State University named after Bobojon Ghafurov (184th) and Khatlon State Medical University (329th).
