Tajikistan, Iran Scrap Visas for International Truck Drivers

Starting March 2026, Tajikistan and Iran will lift visa requirements for drivers involved in international freight transport, following bilateral agreements between the two countries.

The Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the decision is based on government resolutions and a bilateral agreement, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

“Now, drivers and their assistants holding ordinary passports from Tajikistan and Iran will be able to enter each other’s countries without a visa,” the ministry said.

Under the new rules, drivers are allowed to:

Cross borders at all official checkpoints.

Stay in the other country for up to 30 days within each 90-day period without a visa.

Officials expect the move to simplify international transport, strengthen trade cooperation, and boost logistics efficiency between the two countries.

Previously, visa exemptions applied only to diplomatic and service passport holders. Additionally, holders of ordinary passports can currently stay 30 days without a visa when traveling by air between the two countries. Travelers entering via land borders or third countries still need a visa.

The visa waiver memorandum was signed during former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Tajikistan in November 2023. By summer 2024, the documents were prepared and approved by both parliaments, and on August 10, 2024, the visa regime between Dushanbe and Tehran was officially lifted.
