Tajikistan, Pakistan Highlight CASA-1000 as Key to Regional Energy Cooperation

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif have held talks in Beijing, focusing on the implementation of the CASA-1000 project.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation, paying special attention to the CASA-1000 project and the development of the regional energy market, The Caspian Post reports via the Tajik president’s press service.

They also highlighted the importance of cooperation in the transport sector, including the creation of a Joint Council of Transport Companies, and expressed interest in gaining access to international transport corridors and seaports.

The CASA-1000 project is a multinational infrastructure initiative aimed at transmitting 1,300 MW of surplus hydropower from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to South Asian countries, including Afghanistan and Pakistan, where demand for electricity remains high. The project involves the construction of new energy infrastructure, expands access to renewable energy, and fosters the creation of a regional electricity market, generating economic benefits for all participating states.
