Tajikistan’s Agriculture Sees Robust Growth, Fueled by Fruit and Melon Surge

The Tajik Agriculture Ministry has announced that agricultural sector demonstrated strong performance in the first six months of 2025, with total production reaching nearly 24 billion somoni ($2.51 billion), a 9.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

The figures were presented at a recent meeting of the Advisory Council of the Ministry, chaired by Agriculture Minister Kurbon Hakimzoda, where participants assessed the sector’s progress and outlined strategic priorities for the remainder of the year, The Caspian Post reports, citing Tajik media.

The crop production sector was the main driver of growth, recording an output of 15.9 billion somoni ($1.66 billion), up 9 per cent year-on-year. The livestock sector also posted strong results, with output reflecting an 11.2 per cent increase from the first half of 2024.

Melons: Production rose sharply by 43.1 per cent, translating to an additional 177,916 tons - a record-breaking figure that reflects expanding cultivation and improved yields.

Fruits: Output grew by 32.4 per cent, or approximately 73,000 tons, due to increased orchard area and enhanced agricultural techniques.

Grapes: Production climbed 38.2 per cent, contributing over 1,000 additional tons, amid continued investments in viticulture and better farming methods.

Potatoes: Production edged up by 0.3 per cent (+819 tons). Though modest, the steady growth signals sustained demand and sector stability.

Animal Feed: Output increased by 9.7 per cent, or 44,000 tons, driven by greater demand from the expanding livestock industry.
